What's this, the school lunch break? No, it's an example of Indonesian teachers and students creating a lesson using local learning resources, a 'warung' or local shop. The picture left shows students collecting information from the owner of a mixed goods shop. Asking questions in real situations like this makes the students active and creative. Without being aware of it the SD (primary school) students are gaining competencies in questioning through this practical activity (Ref. MBE Project).

The traditional learning resources are the teacher and the textbook, and for many teachers (and sadly lecturers) this is still their primary mode of teaching. We would love to receive any information you may wish to share on this page about ways in which you utilize 'less conventional' resources in your teaching.

These days we are also engulfed in a world of technological resources for learning/teaching. When I started in education technology in 1976 I couldn't have imagined the scope of resources that are currently available. On our video-clips page there is a clip about using "Video as Text", replacing text and reading with video. By in large, most people still utilize video in a very conventional manner. Hopefully on this page some of our visitors may wish to share some of the ways in which they utilize video or other technologies to replace more conventional methods of teaching particular topics or subjects.
